Experience preferred:

This role will require the technician to complete PM tasks as part of normal duties. This role is essentially a maintenance technician with high skill and experience working with PLC - controls

* Maintenance experience in fast paced environment where short response times are essential (automotive OEM / 1st tier or similar)
* Frequent fault finding using modern control systems. PLC (ladder, SFC, structured text)
* Ability to safely apply minor edits / forces to enable continuation of production when permanent machine repair not possible within acceptable timescale
* Ability to train and develop other technicians to improve their technical abilities

Overall Job Purpose:

To ensure the safe, reliable operation of all plant and equipment by completing planned preventative maintenance, investigating and resolving equipment issues and leading technical continuous improvement activities.

To contribute to improving operational performance by implementing process improvements and developing and maintaining data collection and visualisation systems to support data-driven decision making and problem solving.

To provide technical support to maintenance technicians as required and lead departmental training and development activities.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

* To respond promptly to equipment issues, implement temporary solutions as necessary, investigate problems to root cause and complete permanent countermeasures.
* To lead maintenance training activity by identifying departmental requirements, evaluating gaps and developing and delivering a training programme to ensure that all technicians are trained to the required standard.
* Control of machinery software backups, development of systems and processes to ensure that working backups are available at all times and software changes are adequately controlled.
* To undertake planned preventative maintenance as required and to assist with the set-up, scheduling and continuous improvement of planned preventative maintenance procedures
* To ensure that all maintenance activities are carried out safely by assessment of risks, planning of hazard control measures and ensuring implementation by all involved.
* To ensure that equipment and machinery is maintained in a safe condition at all times and complies with all applicable legislation and standards.
* To maintain work areas to a high standard of 5S, ensuring that they are safe, clean and tidy and that required tools, spares and consumables are stored correctly.
* To ensure that all maintenance records and documentation are kept up to date, generating additional documents as required.
* To liaise with suppliers to ensure that spare parts, consumables and work equipment are available when required, are to the required specification and quality and at the lowest cost to the company.
* To recommend improvements to working processes or equipment where opportunities are seen, and undertake or assist with their implementation
* To undertake liaison with customers and suppliers at all levels as and when needs arise.
* To adhere to Company policy and operate to procedures and work instructions.
* In addition to the duties listed above the Controls Technician may be required to perform other duties as reasonably requested.

Person Specification:


* HNC or equivalent


* Diagnosis of complex problems on automatic and semi-automatic machinery using PLC software and electrical wiring diagrams.
* Design and implementation of minor PLC changes in Ladder Logic and SFC
* Modifications to HMI interface screens.
* Understanding of industrial data networking (Ethernet, Profibus)
* Understanding of automated shopfloor data collection technologies
* Awareness of applicable Health and Safety legislation including principles of safety circuits - safety PLCs.
